Johnnie J. Rubenacker, Billings, MI—Johnnie J. Rubenacker passed away earlier this week after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a deep void in the hearts of his loved ones and the community. His passing has left his family, friends, and students grieving for the loss of a man who was not only their rock but also a passionate educator in skilled trades.
Mariah Lillie, in a heartfelt tribute, shared how her "sweet papa" passed away after a short illness, teaching his family invaluable lessons in hard work, kindness, and love. She remembered how he adored his granddaughter Olivia, lovingly referring to her as "Livvy bear" in his final days. Mariah expressed her sorrow that Olivia might not remember her grandfather but vowed to keep his memory alive for her.
Others have also shared their condolences. Mackenzie Lynn said, "Happy to have known him! This is a beautiful tribute to him; my thoughts are with you and your family!" Jennifer Ritzer Jean added, "I am so sorry, Mariah. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!" Many others, including Samantha Schultz, Gavin Ritchey, and Amanda Comstock, expressed their sympathy and sent prayers to the family.
Johnnie’s love for teaching skilled trades through the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Clare-Gladwin RESD was one of his greatest joys. In his honor, a fundraiser has been set up by Anna O’Dell to support students entering skilled trades, helping them with essential clothing, equipment, and tools. So far, the community has raised $120, with donations continuing to pour in.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Rubenacker family during this time of profound loss. May Johnnie’s memory live on through the lives he touched, both in his family and his students. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
