John Stephens Gonzales, Antelope, CA— It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Stephens Gonzales, affectionately known as Johnny, who passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 39. Johnny was a beloved brother, son, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him. His kindness, generosity, and selflessness were qualities that endeared him to everyone he met.
Johnny’s heart was as big as the world, always making those around him feel valued and loved. Despite facing personal challenges, including being a special needs individual, Johnny’s resilience and strength were truly inspiring. Recently, he was approaching the milestone of completing a year of sobriety, a testament to his determination to overcome life’s difficulties.
Johnny cherished his family deeply, and he will be remembered for his devotion to his brothers—Ben Baker, Thomas Gonzales, and Robert Gonzales—as well as his nieces and nephews. His favorite moments were spent playing video games like Fortnite and GTA5, watching family movies, and listening to Christmas music by the fire. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he would drop everything to lend a hand when needed.
He is predeceased by his father, Robert Tom Gonzales; his stepfather, James Henry McNeil; his brother, Jerry David Gonzales; and his mother, Dantzel Kay Baker. Johnny missed his mother dearly, and his family finds peace in knowing that he is now reunited with her and his brother.
A fundraiser has been set up by his brother Ben Baker to assist with funeral expenses and a headstone in honor of Johnny’s memory. The community has already shown support through generous donations, including $100 from Luis Fraser, $75 from an anonymous donor, $200 from Seth Mooney, $100 from Ryan Nichols-Roy, and $300 from Michael DiManno.
As Ben Baker shared on Facebook, “Johnny wasn’t just my brother—he was my best friend, my biggest fan, and one of the most generous and loving souls this world has ever known. He brought light into every room he entered and made friends wherever he went.”
A private family service will be held to honor Johnny’s life, and the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support his legacy or that acts of kindness be shared in his memory.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gonzales family during this incredibly difficult time. Johnny’s legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
