Sault Ste. Marie, ON—John Richard Kuisma, a beloved member of the Sault Ste. Marie community, passed away on August 7, 2024, at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was a devoted father to his daughters, Satu and Eila, and a loving husband to his wife, Suvi Kuisma.
John’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him. His wife, Suvi, shared her heartbreak on social media, expressing her sorrow over losing her partner and best friend. "I am so heartbroken to have to share that my partner in life and best friend John Richard Kuisma passed away on August 7th, 2024 at age 46, after a battle with cancer. I was with him and holding his hand. He was the most loving and devoted father to Satu and Eila. Our hearts are broken, he will be so missed," she wrote.
The community has shown an outpouring of support for Suvi and her daughters. Many have taken to Facebook to share their condolences and offer comfort. In memory of John, Suvi and her family have invited friends and loved ones to attend a visitation and reception on Thursday, August 15, from 1-4 pm at Northwood Funeral Home in Sault Ste. Marie. A private family burial will take place the following day.
To assist with the financial burdens that come with such a loss, a GoFundMe has been organized by John’s sister, Emmilia Kuisma. The fundraiser aims to support Suvi and the girls during this challenging time, as well as to establish an education and support fund for Satu and Eila. Satu, who has special needs, will benefit greatly from these contributions. Additionally, donations can be made in John’s memory to the Sault Ste. Marie Special Olympics.
