John Orlando Smith, Cherry Point Landing, SC—The community is mourning the recent passing of John Orlando Smith, a respected and beloved Marine veteran. At 55 years old, John, known to many as "Smitty," passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, after a brief but courageous battle with stage 4 colon cancer. He was diagnosed only two months before his passing.
John was a dedicated veteran, having served honorably for 20 years in the United States Marines. His military career included deployments to Desert Storm and the Gulf War in Iraq. His service and dedication left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him, not only as a soldier but also as a friend, mentor, and family man. He was described as the type of person who would have given his last dollar to someone in need.
John leaves behind three young daughters who are now grappling with the immense grief of their loss. To honor his memory, Arleen "Bambi" Smith has organized a fundraiser to assist with the additional burial expenses and help his daughters travel to and from California for his funeral on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. As of today, no donations have been made toward the $25,000 goal.
John’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends, and the community has been encouraged to visit his Facebook page to better understand the impactful life he led.
We extend our deepest sympathies to John Orlando Smith’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this incredibly difficult time.
