John Kimbrough, a cherished member of the Velcren community and a dedicated medevac and PICU nurse from Merchantville, NJ, passed away on September 30, 2024, after a courageous one-year battle with cancer. Known lovingly as “Johnny Courage” by those closest to him, John embodied the bravery and resilience that his nickname suggested, continuing to work and care for others even while undergoing treatment.
John’s passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family, including his wife Gwen and their two sons, Jackson (11) and Buckley (13). His legacy of compassion, kindness, and service as a nurse, as well as his love for music, golf, and his beloved Phillies, will forever be remembered by all who knew him.
Friends from the Velcren community have organized a fundraiser in John’s honor to support his surviving family members during this difficult time. Donations have already started pouring in, with Dean Sanborn contributing $1,000 as the top donation and Sheila Schroeder and Kevin Kahlden making contributions as well.
John’s friends and colleagues speak of his sharp wit, his love for life, and his unwavering devotion to his family. His strength throughout his illness, working until he physically could no longer do so, is a testament to his character. Now, in his absence, the community is rallying to help ease the financial burden left on his family.
We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gwen, Jackson, Buckley, and the entire Kimbrough family. May John’s memory be a source of comfort and strength in the days ahead.
