Joe Himmelberg, a beloved member of the La Mesa Village community, left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. Joe, the former owner of the well-known local establishment Joe ‘n Andy’s, passed away in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and community spirit that continues to resonate today.
Joe’s daughter, Josie Himmelberg, now faces her own battle, having recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Josie has been hospitalized at UCSD Jacobs Medical Center for the past two weeks, undergoing intense chemotherapy and blood transfusions. Despite the grueling treatments, she remains hopeful and is determined to overcome this challenge.
Daughn Stombaugh, a long-time friend of the Himmelberg family and a member of the La Mesa Village community since 1996, has organized a fundraiser to support Josie in her fight against leukemia. The fundraiser, created on August 16th, 2024, has raised $630 of its $3,000 goal so far, with 11 donations from generous supporters. The top donation of $100 was given anonymously, while Felicia Rojas made the first contribution of $100, and Lynette Abugan recently donated $25.
The community is rallying around Josie, just as they did for her father, to ensure she receives the medical care she needs. A special fundraising event is also being organized for November 15th at Navajo Live to further support her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Josie Himmelberg as she continues her battle against leukemia. May she find strength and comfort in the love and support of her community during this difficult time.
