Libertyville, IL—Jessica Gutierrez, a beloved member of the Libertyville community, has sadly passed away after a courageous battle with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Jessica was known for her remarkable strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and career as a school psychologist and social justice advocate.
Jessica’s passing has deeply affected her husband, Hector Gutierrez, and their son, Armie, whom she lovingly referred to as “mi gran tesoro.” Jessica’s greatest pride was being a wife and mother, and she cherished every moment with her family, even amidst her illness. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her.
A fundraiser titled "Jessica’s Legacy—Mi Gran Tesoro" has been organized by Sheri Joscelyn, along with two other members, on behalf of Hector Gutierrez. The fundraiser has so far raised $15,625 of its $100,000 goal, thanks to the generosity of 224 donors. These funds will help cover medical and funeral expenses, household needs, and establish a college fund for Armie. The community is encouraged to continue supporting Hector and Armie as they navigate life without Jessica.
In addition to financial contributions, the family has requested letters to Armie from those who knew Jessica, to share with him when he is older, so he can learn more about the incredible woman his mother was.
Jessica’s wake service was held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at McMurrough Funeral Chapel in Libertyville, IL, and her funeral mass took place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Most Blessed Trinity Church in Waukegan, IL, followed by interment at Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gutierrez family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Hector and Armie, and all of Jessica’s loved ones.
