Jeisi Suazo, a brave young girl who showed immense resilience, passed away on September 18, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with a terminal illness. The community is now coming together to support her mother, Yenifer Suazo, who fought tirelessly to provide her daughter with a chance at life.
Jeisi and her mother arrived in San Antonio, TX, in 2021 from Honduras after doctors in their home country had deemed Jeisi’s condition untreatable. She was only five years old at the time. At the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (CHOSA), Jeisi received extensive medical care, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and a stem cell transplant on October 26, 2021, with her mother Yenifer as the donor. Despite their efforts and the advanced treatment she received, complications arose, affecting Jeisi’s lungs, bones, skin, heart, and brain. Her health gradually declined, and her lungs eventually collapsed, leading to her passing.
Lizbeth Alvarez has organized a fundraiser to help cover the funeral and transport expenses to bring Jeisi’s body back to Honduras, where she can be laid to rest close to her family. With a goal of $10,000, the fundraiser has so far raised $100 from a single generous donor.
This support will allow Yenifer to be with her family during this incredibly difficult time, offering her the comfort of their presence as she grieves the loss of her beloved daughter. The community’s generosity and compassion are a testament to the impact Jeisi and her story have had on those who knew her.
We extend our deepest condolences to Yenifer and her family. May Jeisi’s memory be a source of solace and strength. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this heartbreaking time.
