Jayce Ward, Wilmer, AL— The community is in mourning following the tragic passing of Jayce Ward. Jayce, a recent graduate from MGM C/O 2023, passed away on August 6, 2024, from a drug overdose, just weeks before his 19th birthday.
Jayce was remembered by those who knew him as a kind and sweet young man. Audrey Winchester, a friend from school, shared on Facebook, "Jayce was a good friend of mine, we haven’t been as close since graduation, but it’s still so sad for this to have happened to someone so young & sweet."
His grandmother, Donna Collins Clark, expressed her heartbreak on Facebook, seeking support from the community to help with funeral expenses. Donna shared, "I lost my oldest grandson yesterday, August the 6th, to a drug overdose. Jayce Ward, he would be turning 19 years old on the 22nd of this month. My daughter Amiee doesn’t have the financial means to endure this alone."
Donna Clark has organized a fundraiser to cover the costs of Jayce’s funeral and related expenses. As of now, $1,390 has been raised out of the $5,000 goal, thanks to the generosity of 19 donors. Luci Murphy made the top donation of $300, and Brian Wesson was the first to contribute with $200.
Jamie Kay, another community member, shared her condolences and urged the community to support the Ward family: "I know this young man’s grandmother. I groomed for her for many years. We use to coach her daughter. His late aunt in soccer. When she was young. I don’t know him. Though as a community we can help. He is a graduate from MGM C/O 2023. Jayce Ward. He passed from drug overdose. His family is in need of financial help to bury him. Every little bit helps. Many prayers for you and your family Donna Collins Clark."
