Jay Obser, a Navy veteran and beloved New Yorker, passed away recently in North Carolina, leaving his close friends and community in mourning. Jay, described as a "Renaissance Man," known for his love of books, pool, and spirited conversations, was a cherished figure. He passed away unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack the day after his 50th birthday, on August 20th, and never regained consciousness. His friend, Daniel Spratlan, who had been listed as his closest family member, received the heartbreaking call shortly before life support was removed.

In an effort to honor Jay’s memory and the unique legacy he left behind, Daniel has organized a fundraiser to establish the Obser Memorial Library, a community book exchange in Jay’s hometown of Long Island. Jay, a lover of books, had shared hundreds with his friends over the years. The library will serve as a tribute to his passion for reading and his generous spirit. As of today, the fundraiser has a goal of $3,000, with Daniel making an appeal to help cover the expenses for Jay’s cremation and retrieving his remains from North Carolina.
