Jay Audiel Maya, San Clemente, CA— Jay Audiel Maya, known affectionately as Jay, passed away after a courageous battle following a heart attack on November 30th. He spent several weeks in the ICU, where medical professionals did their best to support him. Unfortunately, Jay did not recover from the severity of his condition. His loss has deeply impacted the community, where he was known for his kindness, work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Jay was a devoted family man, providing for an extended family through his work as a painter, handyman, and busboy at Sonny’s Pizza in San Clemente. His dedication to his work, as well as his caring and compassionate nature, earned him the respect and affection of all who knew him. His passing, particularly so close to the holidays, has left his loved ones heartbroken.
A fundraiser has been set up by Nicole Sauder to cover funeral expenses and honor Jay’s memory. As of today, $320 has been raised through generous donations from the community. Donations continue to come in, with supporters such as Connor Neville, Lena Seibert, Jameson Burt, Tomas Gomez, and Berlyn Sanchez making contributions.
Messages of support have poured in from all who knew Jay. Jody Narey shared, "Sonny’s lost a really good busboy today!!! Audiel Mayagarfias we called him Jay. He was a hard worker, by day a painter and by night at Sonny’s. I could say so much, so many years of stories. He will be missed. He leaves behind a big family at Christmas."
Emily Godwin Scharf also expressed her sentiments, saying, "Oh he was always so sweet to me!"
