James Riley, Santa Clara, CA—James Riley, also known affectionately as “Seamus” by his family, has passed away, leaving behind a grieving family and community. James’s passing occurred on August 3rd, 2024, at 4:25 a.m., with his loving mother, Anna McDevitt, and sister by his side.
James, a devoted son, and beloved brother, was a caring individual who spent the last 20 years living with his mother, Anna. He took pride in cooking for her and sharing household responsibilities, which included supporting her financially. James’s sudden and unexpected passing has left Anna devastated and concerned about her financial future, as she relied on James’s contributions to their shared expenses. Anna, who has been a nanny for the same family for nearly 12 years, is now facing uncertainty and worry.
James’s battle with metastatic cancer was shockingly brief. On July 26th, 2024, the family was informed that James had cancer throughout his lymph nodes, bones, and adrenal gland. By July 29th, the prognosis was grim, and despite the family’s disbelief and heartache, there was little time to fight the aggressive illness. James’s family was devastated by the news and struggled to come to terms with the fact that his cancer had gone undetected for so long due to a lack of proper medical testing.
In his final days, James found peace in his faith. On July 30th, just days before his passing, he spoke to his sister Lori about seeing family and friends who had gone before him and asked Jesus into his heart, giving his family comfort that he is now at peace in Heaven.
A fundraiser has been organized by Lori Voiss-Garmany to help cover James’s final arrangements and to support Anna during this challenging time. The goal is set at $15,000, and as of now, no donations have yet been made. The funds will be used for James’s final arrangements, his Celebration of Life, and to assist Anna with her rent and other necessary expenses. The family is grateful for any support and appreciates the thoughts and prayers offered by friends and the community.
James was known for his generosity, often leaving generous tips for servers, a practice close to his heart after working as a server himself for many years. He also took pride in his job at Classic Car Wash, where he was recognized as one of the top salesmen.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of James Riley. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May James’s memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
