Middle Island, NY—The community of Middle Island is grappling with the heartbreaking situation surrounding Jahnia Joseph, a vibrant and brilliant young woman who has been a cherished member of her family and community. Jahnia, known for her academic excellence with a 3.90 GPA, has touched the lives of many around her, including her father, Carlisle Joseph, her sibling, Delano Joseph, and her stepmother, who all adore her deeply.
On July 18th, 2024, Jahnia suffered a devastating cardiac arrest, resulting in her heart stopping for 30 minutes. This catastrophic event has left her in a vegetative state, currently on life support. Her parents are facing the excruciating decision of whether to disconnect Jahnia from life support, while also exploring the possibility of transferring her to a rehabilitative facility in upstate New York.
To help manage the overwhelming costs associated with Jahnia’s care, including the potential transfer and eventual funeral arrangements, a fundraiser has been organized by Pantelia Abou Zaid. The fundraiser, titled "Help Jahnia Joseph’s Family in Crisis," has set a goal of $25,000, but as of now, no donations have been received. The family and organizers are hopeful that the community will come together to support them during this incredibly difficult time.
Jahnia’s loved ones are holding onto the hope that they will be able to give her the care she needs, and the community is urged to come forward with support.
We are deeply saddened to hear about the situation surrounding Jahnia Joseph. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this time of immense sorrow.
