Howard’s commitment to the fire service began in 2008 when he joined the Highland Park Volunteer Fire Department, driven by his desire to give back to the community. In 2010, he transferred to Raritan Engine Company 1 to serve his local town and, by October 9, 2012, was appointed as a career firefighter with the Edison Division of Fire, C Platoon. Howard was known for his attention to detail, witty sense of humor, and unending quest for knowledge, regularly attending training classes and working towards a Fire Science Bachelor’s degree from New Jersey City University.

His dedication and positive impact led to his election as Treasurer of Local 1197 on July 1, 2022, where he tirelessly worked to strengthen the union financially and spearheaded community outreach initiatives.
