Hollis Mingo, while on a visit to New York from her homeland in Guyana, passed away suddenly on November 1, 2024. Her unexpected passing has left her family and friends heartbroken as they come to terms with her departure.
Hollis had come to New York to see her younger brother, Dexter, and to help prepare for her son’s wedding scheduled for December in Guyana. It was during this time that she began to feel an unusual weakness. Her family urged her to seek medical advice, and tests soon revealed the shocking news of stage 4 breast cancer, a diagnosis that would end her life only a week later. Despite efforts by her family to arrange her return to Guyana, Hollis was unable to travel back home before her passing.
In her memory, her family has created a fundraiser to help bring Hollis’s body back to Guyana, so her loved ones can say their final goodbyes. Ashley Grant, who organized the fundraiser, has set a goal of $20,000 to support the repatriation and funeral arrangements.
Messages of condolence have poured in from friends and family on Facebook. Dexter Wilson shared the sad news, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic news of my sister Hollis’s sudden passing while on vacation in the USA." Other heartfelt messages include Haleema Ishmeal’s “RIP auntgy Hollis,” Nekela Mingo’s “Sleep on mommy,” and JY Stephen’s “My sincere condolences to you and your entire family. RIP Hollis.”
We extend our deepest sympathies to Hollis Mingo’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
