Dr. Amini’s journey began in Sardasht, in the Kurdish part of Iran. He faced early hardships, losing his father at the age of three due to a mustard gas attack by the Iraqi regime. Despite these challenges, he excelled academically, earning a PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute at the University of Basel. He furthered his research with a postdoctoral fellowship at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and later served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen before joining the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as an Associate Professor.
Heresh’s family, including his wife Bahra Abdolapour and their two young children, are deeply affected by his passing.
