Gina Martin, Las Vegas, NV—Gina Martin passed away recently, leaving the community heartbroken. Gina was known for her vibrant personality and dedication to her work at the Las Vegas Marriott, where she made a lasting impression on her colleagues and friends.
Jamaica Holland, a former coworker, reminisced about their time at the Marriott. "I first met Gina Martin working at the Las Vegas Marriott. She was on the 1st floor, I was on the 17th floor. We were not the same, haha! When the hotel sent us and some other colleagues to an NAACP Luncheon, I got to know her a bit. She was a super picky eater. Like they had to make her a fruit platter because she wasn’t having any of what they were serving us. We had a good time that day, speculating why the hotel sent us specifically. When we got back to the hotel and walked in through the lobby doors, someone commented on how we looked like twins. We were like ‘yeah, we look nothing alike but ok…’ but then that’s how we greeted each other from then at work. Hey ‘Twin’ LOL. Gina was such a great person. We only ever chatted via Facebook but you could tell by her posts that she was a real one. She was amazing at her craft. She was funny, super positive, beautiful, and caring. I know all this from Facebook so I can’t imagine the pain those of you who knew her in real life are feeling. I am so sorry for your loss. Gina, rest easy now and I know you are wrapped in your mom’s arms."
The news of Gina’s untimely death has garnered an outpouring of condolences and memories from those who knew her. Sara Michele LaFave commented, "Lovely post! Rest easy, Gina!" Melissa Humphrey expressed her sorrow, "I’m so sorry! This is absolutely tragic and heartbreaking!" Samantha Hertel added, "Oh wow. I’m so sorry for you and her family’s loss. Cruel people out there." Nikki Blankenship fondly remembered Gina’s humor and kindness, "Lmbooooo twin! All blks don’t look alike pple kill me lol. Yea Gina was a doll & so damn pure!"
Gina is survived by her son, Marcus Dereon Giles. A fundraiser organized by Thais Alexander has been set up to support Marcus and cover Gina’s funeral expenses. As of now, $12,200 of the $25,000 goal has been raised, with donations from 86 kind contributors. Notable donations include $2,500 from Sloan Dean, $500 from Jale Hashimi, and the first donation of $75 from Shahriar Pasdar.
