Gidgette Jefferson, Detroit, MI—Community Remembers a Beloved Mother and Grandmother

Gidgette Jefferson, a beloved resident of Detroit, MI, passed away on October 7, 2024, at 11:03 PM after a long battle with health complications. Gidgette, born on January 18, 1971, endured significant medical challenges throughout her life. Despite these, she remained a devoted mother to her four children—Kiarra, Harold, Quintin, and Aaron—and a loving grandmother to her eight grandchildren.

Gidgette was a fighter from the start. She was born with a missing lung lobe and had surgery as an infant. Her health battles continued into adulthood when she lost her right leg in 2017 due to type 2 diabetes, but her spirit was unwavering. She was a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, known for her strength and resilience. Sadly, she contracted COVID-19 and developed pneumonia, which led to her passing.

A GoFundMe page has been organized by Harold Black to honor Gidgette’s memory and help cover the funeral expenses. The fundraiser, titled "Help celebrate and honor the life of Gidgette Jefferson," is aiming to give her a dignified farewell. Austin Greene has generously contributed $50 so far. The memorial service is scheduled for October 19, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the James H. Cole Home for Funerals Inc. in Detroit.
