Eva Villegas Barrios, Romeoville, IL—Eva Villegas Barrios passed away following a prolonged and difficult battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She was a cherished mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend, whose presence brought warmth and love to all those around her.
Eva’s journey with breast cancer began on June 1, 2021, when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease that had already spread to her liver. Despite undergoing three years of chemotherapy and recently starting radiation treatment for her brain, her condition worsened. On August 11, 2024, Eva suffered a fall due to weakness, which was initially thought to be a side effect of her radiation treatments. However, further examination at the hospital revealed that her organs were also failing. Despite her strong will to fight, the doctors could do no more. She was released from the hospital to spend her remaining days surrounded by her loved ones, engaging in what she cherished most—being with family.
Eva was a devoted mother who did everything in her power to ensure her children never experienced suffering. As a wife, she was the unwavering support for her husband, a true "Rock." She kept her family close as a sister, and as a daughter, she always ensured her parents were well taken care of. Her friends knew her as a loyal and caring individual. Eva will forever be remembered as “Madre Eva,” a nickname lovingly given to her by her own mother.
Her family, heartbroken by her passing, has organized a fundraiser to cover the multiple outstanding medical bills and funeral expenses. Jose Barrios, Eva’s son, is leading the effort, and although no donations have been received yet, the family remains hopeful for the support of their community.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Eva Villegas Barrios’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this challenging time.
