A devoted father, Ernest was the beloved partner of Marie Smith and leaves behind three sons: Ernie (April) Chappell, Bobby (Callie) Chappell, and Danny (Danielle) Chappell. He also leaves behind his brother Jimmy Chappell, sisters Ginny (Jerold) Ray and Brenda (Randy) Herron, along with many grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lessie Cagle Chappell, and his late wife Jeannette Morris Chappell, as well as his brother Chris Chappell.
Ernest worked as a Foreman at Sumter Utilities, where he was known for his dedication and work ethic. The community will remember him for his kind spirit and the love he shared with those around him.
A funeral service for Ernest Chappell will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. The service will be followed by burial at Florence Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation starting at 1:00 pm, before the service begins.
