Emily Michelle Bode, Mobile, AL— Emily Michelle Bode passed away on November 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 30 years old. Emily was diagnosed with Triple Negative Metaplastic Breast Cancer at the age of 27, and despite undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and clinical trials, the cancer ultimately spread. She was surrounded by loved ones when she passed peacefully at home.
In the face of her illness, Emily showed immense strength and bravery. Even when her condition worsened, she remained determined to continue her fight, exploring every available treatment option. Emily had been accepted into a clinical trial at the University of Alabama Birmingham Cancer Center, but after a concerning health decline, it was discovered that a tumor had spread to her heart, making further treatment impossible. Her decision was made to return home to Mobile, where she passed away in the comfort of her own home.
In honoring Emily’s wishes, her body was donated to the University of South Alabama Anatomical Gifts program. Emily also requested that her cremains be placed in an Eternal Reef Memorial, a meaningful tribute that contributes to the rebuilding of reefs.
A fundraiser has been set up by her mother, Victoria Bode, to cover the cost of Emily’s Eternal Reef Memorial. So far, the fundraiser has raised $200 from generous supporters, including donations from Michael Herring, Frank Vernon, and Sherry Gerald. Any funds exceeding the memorial costs will be donated to breast cancer research, a cause that was close to Emily’s heart.
We are deeply saddened by Emily Michelle Bode’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
