Ellie’s death has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew her. Ellie was born on December 31, 1958, in Suffern, NY, to Leonid A. Lange and Joyce M. Lange (Edwards). She grew up in Nanuet and Campbell Hall, NY, where she shared a special bond with her twin brothers, Alex and Victor. Throughout her life, Ellie had a love for outdoor activities such as hiking, target shooting, and enjoying nature with her family. She graduated from Washingtonville High School in 1977 and went on to study at Orange County Community College.
In 1983, Ellie married Fred Stewart in Goshen, NY. Together, they raised three children: Larisa, Sonia, and Eric. After staying home to raise her children, Ellie returned to work in 2000 at Keller Army Community Hospital in West Point, where she served as a Medical Support Assistant until her retirement in September 2024.
Ellie’s love for reading, the beach, and spending time with her grandchildren was well-known to all who knew her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be remembered for her warmth and deep affection for her family. Her passing has left a deep sadness in the hearts of her loved ones, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on.
Ellie is survived by her mother, Joyce M. Lange (Edwards); her brothers Alex and Victor Lange, along with their spouses; her children Larisa, Sonia, and Eric; her five beloved grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is deeply grateful for the care provided by the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park.
In her memory, Ellie’s children have established a fundraiser to create a memorial bench at the Orange County Arboretum. The bench will serve as a lasting tribute to a woman who brought joy to so many.
