Edward Elias, a devoted husband, father, and cherished member of the Arcadia community, passed away after a long battle with a rare form of kidney cancer. Known to many as "Ed," he was surrounded by his loving family during his final days, fulfilling his wish to spend his last moments at home.
Ed was diagnosed with stage 4 RCC Chromophobe in September 2024, a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer. His health rapidly declined, and he was unable to receive immunotherapy. Despite this difficult journey, his love for life, family, and sports remained unwavering. He shared over 45 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Josephine "Pina" Elias, and together they raised three children, Eric, Nikki, and Chris. His six grandchildren—Averey, Landin, Liam, Evan, Lucas, and Liella—were the joy of his life.
A man known for his generosity and dedication, Ed touched many lives throughout his career. He was respected for his kindness and commitment to helping others, qualities that made him a pillar in both his professional and personal circles.
During his final days, Ed found solace in the simple pleasures of life—cheering for his favorite USC Trojans, celebrating the victories of the LA Dodgers, and watching LA Kings and Colts games with his loved ones. His brother Victor and best friend Mark were there to share these precious moments, offering comfort in a time of loss.
A GoFundMe campaign, organized by Justin Salazar, has been set up to support Edward’s family as they navigate the difficult road ahead. The funds raised will help cover medical expenses and future services, allowing the family to focus on spending time together. The outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous, with Russell Shuben making both the top and recent donations of $500, and Magdalena Dahlbom contributing the first donation of the same amount.
Many have taken to social media to share their condolences and memories of Ed. Lenore Tijerina Smith wrote on Facebook, "We became neighbors 25 years ago, and eventually became friends that are like family. Ed has returned home to spend his final days surrounded by those he loves. If you feel compelled to help, please do."
The Elias family is heartbroken by this loss, but the love and support from friends, neighbors, and colleagues are helping them through this incredibly tough time.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Edward Elias’ family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this period of sorrow.
