Dorothy "Dotty" Lillian Jay, of Plymouth Meeting, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, after a brief illness at the Neshaminy Manor in Warrington, PA. Dotty, aged 73 years, 5 months, and 8 days, was a beloved figure in her community, known for her decades of work as a nurse and later as a Head Cashier and Office Coordinator with ACME Markets.
Born on October 23, 1950, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Dotty was the eldest of four children of Burke W and Lillian Elizabeth (McFadden) Jay. She dedicated her life to caring for others, starting with her graduation from Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1972. Dotty worked in critical care at both Abington Memorial Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and also served in New York and Florida.
In 1984, she began a long career with ACME Markets, where she was affectionately known as "DJ" by her colleagues and customers. Dotty’s compassionate nature and her ability to provide support and solace to others made her a cherished figure throughout her career, whether in nursing or retail.
A fundraiser organized by Charles Jay has been established to help cover Dotty’s medical and funeral expenses. The community has already started to show support, with an early donation of $100 made by Scottie Marchessault.
Dotty had expressed her wish for no formal services, asking instead that people remember her by simply taking a moment to breathe in the salt air and raise a glass in her honor.
We offer our heartfelt prayers for Dorothy "Dotty" Lillian Jay’s family and friends during this time of sorrow.
