Dora Kent, a beloved member of the Stephens City, VA community, passed away on Monday, August 26th, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center after a brief but intense battle with lung and bone cancer. Diagnosed just three weeks ago, Dora’s health rapidly declined, and despite her resilient spirit, the odds were against her due to her previous health challenges. She had survived cancer once before, had a kidney removed, and had endured significant physical trauma from a stroke and a car accident in recent years.
Dora was known for her humor and ability to find light even in the darkest times. She touched the lives of those around her with her wit and warmth, leaving behind cherished memories. Her passing has left her family struggling to cover the costs of her cremation, which is currently holding her body at the hospital morgue.
Her daughter Megan, along with her siblings, Ashley and Roland, and granddaughter Eliana, are seeking help from the community to afford the cremation, which costs around $1600. A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Heather Miller to assist with these expenses. The community has been asked to contribute either through the GoFundMe page or directly to the Direct Cremation service in Stephens City.
On Facebook, community members have expressed their condolences and support for the family. Nina Pierce shared, "She passed from cancer shortly after she was diagnosed. Help with cremation expenses would be greatly appreciated!"
Dora Kent’s family and friends are deeply saddened by her loss and are praying for the strength to give her a dignified farewell. The family is grateful for any support that can help bring Dora home to them.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kent family during this difficult time and keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
