Debra Debbie Overton, Fort Worth, TX—The community mourns the unexpected loss of Debra (Debbie) Overton, who passed away on October 14, 2024, after a prolonged battle with COVID-19, pneumonia, and a bacterial infection. Debbie was known for her kind-hearted nature, always offering support to those in need, whether they were family or not.
Raised in Fort Worth by her parents EJ and Helen Overton, who preceded her in death, Debbie was the third of four siblings. Her sister Judy Matthews also preceded her in death, but she is survived by her siblings Maryann Fagan and David Overton. Debbie’s family was the center of her world, and she leaves behind her daughter Julie Devaney, son-in-law Richard, and her three grandchildren, Jonathan, Chloe, and Kaleb. Her legacy continues through her extended family, including her ten nieces and nephews and countless great-nieces and great-nephews.
After earning her GED, Debbie worked in retail before beginning a long career with the Fort Worth Housing Authority in 1986. For 25 years, she was a maintenance worker and housing inspector, deeply committed to her role in supporting the community. Even after retiring in December 2011, she stayed close with many former colleagues, including Hershel, Hezzie, Suzi, and Oscar.
Debbie’s open-hearted spirit extended beyond her work. She never met a stranger and developed close friendships with many, including Linda, Cathy, Sandy, Jeanne, and Susan. Her ability to connect with others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
The family is organizing a fundraiser to celebrate Debbie’s life, led by Richard Devaney on behalf of Julie Devaney. Donations have already started pouring in, with Erika Starnes, Chloe Nieto, and others contributing to help honor Debbie’s memory. Funeral services will be held at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas, though the date has yet to be determined.
