Gardendale, AL—The community is mourning the loss of Deborah Ann Southall, who passed away recently. Deborah, known for her vibrant personality and deep love for her family, was only 58 years old. Her passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew her, especially her sister, Batrice Brown, who is struggling to cope with the profound loss.
Batrice expressed her heartbreak in a touching Facebook post, stating, “Deborah Ann Southall was like my mother. I was her BABY when I was younger. When I grew up, I called her MY baby. Life is different. It just feels WRONG. The universe seems out of whack. I’ve honestly never shed a tear when a loved one passed. Never really ‘grieved’. Saw it coming. Understood. I know her pain & suffering is over. But, … I’m just NOT ok. I don’t know how 2 deal, feel, think or act.” Her post resonated with many, who offered their prayers and support.
Logan Gray commented, “I’m so sorry Batrice. Praying for you and your family. Sending lots of hugs your way.” Jackie Hagler added, “Batrice Brown Southall, you and your family are in my prayers, I pray that God will comfort and give you peace. I wish that I was there, to give you a hug.” Other friends and family members, including Tammy Ann Garrett, Anna Wells, and Marissa Estes, also expressed their condolences and offered their support.
Deborah’s life was one of giving and creativity. Before becoming bedridden three years ago, she was known for her visits to family, friends, and church members, often bringing gifts or home-cooked meals. Even after she became bedridden, she continued to reach out through video calls, bringing joy to those she connected with. She was an artist in every sense, creating music, paintings, poems, and crafts, and was even working on a self-portrait before her hospitalization.
To honor Deborah’s memory and provide her with a beautiful farewell, Batrice has organized a fundraiser. With a goal of $10,000, the fundraiser has raised $100 so far. Batrice shared, “I just want to give her the memorial she deserves & that I know she would have wanted. Any amount will help. If you would like to donate but cannot, please ask around. Or simply share her story.”
We are deeply saddened to learn of Deborah Ann Southall’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
