David Tucker, Durham, NC — The community mourns the loss of David Tucker, an extraordinary husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and brother. David passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 13, 2024, at the age of 78, after a long battle with diabetes and other health issues requiring dialysis.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Seretha, with whom he shared a total of 47 years. Seretha is now facing significant financial challenges due to her disability and the loss of David’s income. She will receive only survivor benefits through social security, which are insufficient to cover her needs.
David dedicated his career as a meatcutter and butcher, working at various grocery store food chains in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. He also served in the US Army and was the President of the Bull City Riders Motorcycle Club in the 1980s.
A fundraiser organized by Lynita Young Cooke aims to support Seretha in memory of David. The campaign has raised $650 out of a $100,000 goal from 8 donations. Contributions will initially cover David’s funeral expenses, with any remaining funds helping Seretha with her mortgage and medical expenses.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at First Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1311 Morehead Ave, Durham, NC 27707. Viewing and receiving friends will take place from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the service at 12:00 pm.
David’s memory will be honored through the support provided to Seretha in her time of need. The community’s generosity will make a significant difference and provide much-needed relief.
