Daniel Lunnie Wright, Cherished Community Member from Buncombe County, Passes Away

Daniel Lunnie Wright and his wife, Evelyn Vess Wright, both passed away together on September 27, 2024. Their loss has deeply impacted the community of Buncombe County, where they were known for their kindness, devotion to their family, and lifelong contributions to their church and neighbors.

Daniel Wright was born on April 22, 1942, and spent over 65 years working as a brick and block mason, running Daniel Wright Masonry. He was an avid outdoorsman, passionate about gardening, hunting, and fishing. His wife, Evelyn, born on May 17, 1943, had retired after more than two decades at Bussman and was loved for her exceptional cooking skills, especially her famous biscuits.

Together for 65 years, Dan and Evelyn Wright were devoted to their family and their church, Cedar Mountain Baptist Church, where Dan served as a deacon, and Evelyn contributed as a pianist and singer. Their dedication to their community extended beyond the church, as they were known for canning produce and even doing hair for neighbors.

A fundraiser has been established by Laura Vogt to help cover the funeral expenses, burial costs, and the memorial on the property where their home once stood. So far, the community has rallied in support, with donations coming in from individuals such as Jake Compston-Chester, Maryelle Stephenson, and others, showing the profound love and respect that Dan and Evelyn inspired in those around them.

Many friends and family members have shared their grief and love for Dan and Evelyn on Facebook. Kerry Wright wrote, “There are no words right now other than… To be their daughter in love was my greatest honor. Their love was always tangible. Not sure how to go on in the world without them.” Other heartfelt condolences came from people like Kelly Forney Coyne and Kristin Brison Burkeen, both expressing sorrow for the loss.

Brooks Anne Johnson Hazelton wrote, “I’m so sorry. I have been praying fervently for you all. I hope the Lord meets you all each day in a tangible way to give you love, peace, and a kindness to extend to others for His glory and their honor. I’m so sorry Kerry Wright and family.”
