St. Petersburg, FL—The community of St. Petersburg is in deep mourning following the unexpected passing of Dakota Moon Tyo, a beloved member of the NoiseMakers, Inc. family. Dakota was not only a talented musician but also a dedicated teacher and a cherished friend to many.
Dakota, who had lived with epilepsy, tragically passed away following a seizure that led to severe head trauma. His passing has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He was just 27 years old.
In his memory, Dakota’s mother, Sherry Tyo, has organized a fundraiser to support a memorial farewell show that will honor his life and the impact he had on so many. The funds raised will also assist Dakota’s best friend and roommate, Justin, with living expenses during this difficult time. Any remaining funds will be donated to causes close to Dakota’s heart, including the Epilepsy Foundation, the Palestinian Release Effort Mission, and LGBTQIA2S+ organizations.
The fundraiser has already seen an outpouring of support, with $190 raised so far out of a $5,000 goal. Contributions have been made by friends and family, including Erin Laverty, Shyanne Werner, Jocelyn Hammett, Lily Tacey, and Andres Hernandez.
Amy Beach, a former student’s parent, shared her grief on Facebook, stating, “Dakota taught my son guitar at NoiseMakers many years ago. Our family thought the world of him. Extending my sincerest condolences to Dakota’s family and all those who knew and loved him.”
The NoiseMakers, Inc. community also expressed their sorrow, highlighting Dakota’s significant contributions as both a student and teacher. “Dakota Moon Tyo has been a huge part of NoiseMakers, Inc. He has been an amazing student, a loved teacher, and a great friend to many of us,” they wrote in a heartfelt post.
The Tyo family and the entire community are united in their grief, but they also find solace in the love and memories shared by those who knew Dakota. His legacy will live on through the music he loved, the lives he touched, and the causes he championed.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Tyo family during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
