Cleon Short, Middletown, OH Community Mourns Beloved Friend and Mentor

Cleon Short, Middletown, OH — The community is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Cleon Short. Cleon, a respected and cherished member of the community, passed away on July 9th. Known for his generosity, kindness, and the significant impact he had on many lives, Cleon will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Cleon’s friend, Mike Dean, shared his heartfelt memories on Facebook, saying, "So today July 9th the world lost one of the Best Men I have ever met. I was 12 years old when Cleon got out of the Marine Corps in 1969 and lived down the street with his mom. Over the years, we became good friends, sharing many stories and good times. Cleon Short, you are going to be missed by a lot of people. You had an impact on many, from all the dealerships you worked at to being the Voice of Edgewater Drag Strip! Cleon, my friend, it’s time for you to REST EASY, and now you’re with your wife again. Give Carolyn a hug for me and my daughter Stacey!"

Jodie Hopcia also expressed her disbelief and sorrow, "Ooh Noo, I can’t and actually don’t wanna believe it… I’ve known Cleon Short since I was 19, from the days at Riverside Auto and the car he gave us for my birthday/vacation to nights at Edgewater and everything in-between. Always such a sweet, kind-hearted man."

Many others shared their condolences and memories. Judy Sturgeon-Miller sent hugs and prayers, and Rita Rodgers reminisced about working with Cleon at the front gate, calling him "awesome" and noting that he was "gone too soon." Terry Hart simply stated, "RIP CLEON," capturing the sentiment of many who mourn his loss.

A fundraiser has been organized by Danny Varney to help cover Cleon’s final expenses. The campaign, titled "Help with Cleon Short’s Final Expenses," has so far raised $100 of its $500,000 goal. Danny Varney, the organizer, highlighted Cleon’s connections in the car business and the drag racing world, emphasizing the family’s need for financial support during this difficult time.
