Chris Acey, Clearwater Beach, FL—Chris Acey, a beloved husband, father, son, friend, and decorated veteran of both the Marines and Army, passed away on July 29th after a 3-week stay in the ICU. He fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to his illness, passing away while holding his wife Elyse’s hand.
Chris and Elyse were married in 2019 and had since built a life together, including Chris’s successful shore fishing business, Cast Crank Catch. Elyse, an Occupational Therapy Assistant, has dedicated her career to helping children with disabilities. Their mutual support was a cornerstone of their relationship, making Chris’s untimely death all the more devastating.
Elyse now faces the difficult task of navigating life without her partner. To support her during this challenging time, a GoFundMe campaign titled "Picking up the pieces… Elyse & Chris Acey" has been organized by Carter Farmer. The fundraiser aims to help cover funeral and memorial costs, and assist Elyse as she adjusts to this new chapter in her life. As of now, $405 has been raised out of a $45,000 goal from seven donations, with contributors including Jorell Velazquez ($100), Joseph Johnson ($50), Gladys Getejanc ($50), Chris & Mandy Kamick ($100), and William Slagle ($50).
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Carter Farmer expressed the community’s grief: "Chris Acey has been ripped away from Elyse and our world. It’s hard to know how to support someone you love through something as painful as losing your husband, your partner, your person. What I do know is that Elyse has a significant road ahead of her as she pieces together what remains of the life they built."
A "Celebration of Chris" is planned to honor his memory. The event will be a casual barbecue followed by time at the beach, one of Chris’s favorite pastimes. It will take place on Sunday, August 4th, at 1:00 PM at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater Beach, FL.
