Chhoeung Chuon, Spanaway, WA— The community is mourning the loss of Chhoeung Chuon, who passed away on August 30th at the age of 70. Chhoeung, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was surrounded by his family and friends in his final moments. His passing has left a profound impact on those who knew him.
Chhoeung is survived by his three daughters: Rathana (40), Pharry (38), and Sarah (36), as well as his granddaughter, Arianna (16), and his brother, Chheth Chuon. He was a man of great wisdom, cherished for his love of family and community.
Recently, Chhoeung had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which tragically claimed his life just one week after the diagnosis. His passing came only four months after losing his wife, Saron, in April. His family believes that the loss of his beloved wife contributed to his own passing, with some thinking he suffered from Broken Heart Syndrome.
Chhoeung was known for his love of playing the guitar, fishing, and spending time at the beach. He also found joy in volunteering at the Yelm Buddhist temple, where he was deeply involved. Chhoeung had a fondness for good meals, especially steak, and enjoyed sipping on a Corona beer while surrounded by those he loved. His family and friends remember him as a kind, loving man who made a positive impact on everyone he met.
The funeral and cremation ceremony for Chhoeung will be held on September 14th, 2024. Donations from the community will go towards covering funeral expenses, with any remaining funds donated to Wat Prachum Raingsey Buddhist Temple, a place close to Chhoeung’s heart, as he had been a former monk in Cambodia before fleeing the Khmer Rouge.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Chuon family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, and we hope they find peace in the memories and love shared with Chhoeung.
