Chantkhan Preap, Denver, CO— Chantkhan Preap has passed away, leaving his family and the wider community in deep sorrow. Known for his unwavering dedication to his work and his family, Chantkhan was a beloved figure who spent much of his life serving the Cambodian community as a professional interpreter and translator.
Chantkhan’s journey began in Pursat, Cambodia, where he was born on October 26, 1957. His early years were marked by hardship, as he survived the Khmer Rouge regime’s atrocities, a period known as the Killing Fields. He immigrated to the United States in 1980, sponsored by the Harmon family, and settled in Collbran, CO, where he worked on the Harmon family farm. Eventually, he moved to Denver, where he continued his work with Denver Public Schools in the ESL department before finding his true calling as a professional interpreter. He worked for decades in various sectors, including courts, hospitals, and immigration services, always with humility and a smile on his face.
Chantkhan’s ability to navigate life’s challenges was remarkable, particularly as he faced ongoing health struggles. Despite using a motorized scooter, he remained dedicated to his family, friends, and community. He was known for his love of the Denver Broncos, Khmer music, and his ability to make those around him laugh with his "dad jokes."
Chantkhan is survived by his wife, Sreyma Sim, and their children Collbran Preap, Daleeny Preap, Rathana Preap, and Manyrith Preap. He also leaves behind grandchildren Devon Martinez and Jordan Martinez, along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
On Facebook, many have shared their memories and heartfelt condolences. Sreyma Sim’s family posted, "We are so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband. Our condolences to you and your family. May your Soul Rest In Peace Mr. Chantkhan Preap." Other community members, including Abigail Seang, Koeun In, and Song Yee Srun, also offered their condolences, reflecting the deep impact Chantkhan had on all who knew him.
To assist with funeral expenses, Chantkhan’s son Rathana Preap has started a fundraiser, with a goal of $3,500. The funds will go directly to his mother, Sreyma Sim.
Chantkhan’s legacy of kindness, resilience, and service to his community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Preap family during this difficult time.
