Burnie Rossum, Minneapolis, MN—Beloved husband, father, and brother, Burnie Rossum, passed away in early September 2024 after a long battle with cancer. He was 50 years old. Known for his years as a professional baseball player with teams like the Angels, Cubs, and Pirates, Burnie left a lasting impact both on and off the field.
Burnie’s baseball career was impressive. Over the last eleven years, he accumulated a remarkable 79-10 record as a pitcher, tallying 372 strikeouts and a 3.04 ERA over 660 innings. He often formed a dynamic duo with his brother Ben, who caught many of those games as his catcher. But beyond the stats, Burnie was remembered for his kindness, his infectious laugh, and his devotion to his family, even during the hardest phases of his illness.
As Burnie’s health deteriorated, his thoughts were focused on his wife, Jen, and their three children: Jake, Bella, and Sam. He was concerned about the financial strain that his medical care placed on his family’s future, especially with him being the primary earner. In response, a fundraiser was organized by Peter Shakow to support Burnie’s family, particularly to assist with the children’s education.
Burnie’s memorial service is scheduled for October 12, and the community is encouraged to attend, share their memories, and contribute to help ease the family’s financial burden during this challenging time. At present, the goal is set at $15,000, but no donations have been recorded yet.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Rossum family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this period of grief.
