Brooke Stilgoe—The Shohola Township community and beyond are mourning the loss of Brooke Stilgoe, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024. Brooke, a native of New Zealand, left an indelible mark on the Lock Haven University (LHU) athletics programs and the hearts of many.
Known for her exceptional talent on the soccer field, Brooke scored 36 goals and 23 assists during her time with the LHU women’s soccer program between 2001 and 2004. Her performance earned her numerous accolades, including a spot on the NCAA Division II All-American Second Team in 2002 and selections to the All-Northeast Region Team and All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team for consecutive years.
Brooke’s athletic prowess wasn’t confined to the soccer field. She was also a standout member of the LHU Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams. Her achievements in the 55-meter hurdles and pentathlon are still remembered, along with her title as the PSAC Indoor Track Champion in 2002. Beyond her collegiate career, she went on to represent New Zealand in the women’s national football team in Turkey in 2004.
For the past four years, Brooke showed the same tenacity and spirit in her personal life as she bravely fought against an aggressive brain tumor. Her strength and resilience throughout this battle have left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Brooke was more than an athlete; she was a beloved wife to her husband, Terry (Tez), and a devoted mother to their children, Liv, Lockie, and Tay. She also held cherished roles as a granddaughter, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, and her loss is deeply felt across many circles.
To honor her legacy and support her family during this difficult time, a fundraiser organized by Danielle Giordano has been set up. Donations are pouring in from friends, family, and those who admired her from afar. So far, Lynnette Reitz has contributed $100, Jaralai Christiano $250, Georgina Donnelly $200, and several others have shown their support through generous donations.
The community is coming together to remember Brooke not just for her athletic achievements but for the spirit, love, and strength she shared with everyone around her. She will be missed but never forgotten.
