Crofton, NE—Bridget Rose Arens Schumacher, a deeply loved member of the Crofton community, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota. She was just 30 years old, leaving behind her husband Taylor and their four young children, ages 9 months to 5 years. Bridget’s joyful spirit, warm smile, and boundless energy touched everyone who knew her, making her passing a profound loss to her family and friends.
Known for her uplifting greetings and nurturing heart, Bridget was described as a "rock" for her family and friends, a compassionate presence who gave generously of herself in every moment. She was the sister, friend, and coach that many turned to for support, advice, and laughter. Her loss has deeply affected not only her family but also the broader community of Crofton, who knew her as a friend, neighbor, and mentor.
A fundraiser, organized by Carmen Backman, has been created to help Bridget’s family manage the financial challenges that lie ahead. So far, $180 has been raised toward a goal of $10,000, with donations from Genevieve Clark and Paula Wieseler contributing to the early support. The family asks for prayers, but those who wish to support further may consider donating to the fund in honor of Bridget’s legacy.
Community members have shared their heartfelt condolences and memories on social media. Sharlene Loomis wrote, “Bridget, your joy and spirit will never be forgotten.” The Crofton Youth Basketball Association has also shown support, announcing a postponement of their Saturday clinic to allow families to attend her service.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Bridget will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Visitation is scheduled for Friday evening, November 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a rosary and vigil service. Wintz & Ray Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Arens and Schumacher families during this difficult time. May Bridget’s memory live on in the hearts of all who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
