Brian Francis James passed away on October 2, 2024, during surgery at Beth Israel Lahey in Burlington, Massachusetts. He was a devoted husband and caretaker, who for more than ten years selflessly looked after his wife, Denise, who has been struggling with multiple serious health issues, including metastatic cancer diagnosed in July 2024, rheumatoid arthritis, and obesity. Brian never complained, despite his own health challenges.
Earlier this year, in April, Brian began to feel unwell, but true to his nature, he kept his discomfort to himself. His condition worsened as he developed endocarditis, a severe infection that damaged his aortic valve. After undergoing surgery in late July to repair the valve, Brian was sent to a rehabilitation center. Unfortunately, during this time, his heart valve failed again, and he was rushed to the emergency room where doctors diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. Despite their efforts during surgery, Brian did not survive.
Brian and Denise had faced many difficulties, including homelessness, which led them to live with his sister, Pamela Rose, and her husband for the past decade. Throughout these hardships, Brian remained a joyful and sociable person, always full of life. Sadly, the couple, living on a fixed income, did not have the means to prepare for such an event. Denise, in her own health battle, is now left struggling to afford even a simple cremation for her beloved husband.
Pamela Rose has started a fundraiser to help with Brian’s funeral expenses, hoping the community will come together to honor the life of a man who gave so much, especially to his wife. Donations are urgently needed to help provide Brian with a respectful and dignified farewell.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Denise, Pamela, and the entire family during this deeply sorrowful time.
