Ashby Clore, Charlottesville, VA— The community is grieving the loss of Ashby Clore’s father, who passed away after a long and challenging battle with cancer. Ashby’s father, known as Mr. Ashby Clore, was 56 years old at the time of his passing on November 12, 2024. He had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer almost a year earlier, in late November 2023, and after enduring numerous treatments, he passed away at the McClenny Funeral Home in Charlottesville, VA, where his body has remained since his passing.
Ashby, who is 25 years old, had been caring for his father throughout the difficult journey, having quit his job to assist with his father’s medical needs, including frequent chemotherapy sessions. Due to the financial strain, the family could not afford a full-time nurse, and Ashby remained at home to provide the necessary care. Sadly, despite his best efforts, Ashby’s father did not live to see his funeral arrangements come to fruition. Before his illness worsened, Ashby’s father had begun planning for his cremation, which is the final wish he wanted to fulfill.
A fundraiser has been created by Christine Carlison, a friend of the family, to help Ashby with the overwhelming financial burden. As of now, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $215 of its $4,500 goal, aimed at covering the cremation expenses and outstanding bills. The funds will also go toward helping Ashby with essential costs, including overdue balances for his and his father’s accommodation at a local motel, as well as transferring his father’s truck into his name. This will enable Ashby to begin driving and secure employment to support himself.
In a heartfelt post, Christine Carlison reached out to the community for assistance, stating, "Please help if you can. Ashby is in need of our help during this incredibly difficult time. Anything you can contribute, no matter the amount, would be gratefully appreciated."
Facebook comments show the community’s outpouring of support for Ashby during this difficult time. Among the well-wishers are Mike Venable, who donated $20, Teresa Surles, who contributed $25, and Lakisha Lewis, who also donated $50.
