Arthur Dale Zammit passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Arthur, known for his deep love of family, friends, and animals, leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by many. Born on November 6, 1937, at the tail end of the Great Depression, Arthur was the eldest of three children and the first in his family to be born in the United States. His pride in his Maltese heritage was matched by his pursuit of the American dream.
Arthur graduated high school at just 14 and later attended the University of Detroit with plans to become a dentist. However, life had different plans, and Arthur was called into service with U.S. Intelligence. His time in the military took him to the Army Language School in Monterey, where he learned Arabic and eventually became fluent in seven languages. He served in North Africa as a cryptographer during his time in the Army.
His personal journey led him to marry twice, first to Roz and later to Norma, who remained by his side until her passing in 2020. Arthur’s career with Ford Motor Company took him around the world, eventually leading him to settle in Tampa, Florida, where he ran Bay Ford Truck Sales and Peterbilt of Tampa. His work allowed him to travel across continents, but he found great joy in returning home to Florida.
Upon his retirement in 1998, Arthur embraced his love for golf and spent his days enjoying life in The Villages, Florida, where he built lifelong friendships, played cards, and shared stories over martinis. He was deeply cherished by his grandchildren, and in his final years, moved to Marietta, Georgia, to be closer to his daughter Leah.
Arthur is survived by his daughters Leah and Deirdre, his brother Gary, and his grandchildren Alexander, Luke, Brendan, and Lauren, as well as his great-grandchildren. His family, friends, and community are mourning his loss, while celebrating the full life he led.
The Zammit family has set up a fundraiser to help cover Arthur’s end-of-life expenses, and any remaining funds will be donated to the Humane Society, reflecting Arthur’s lifelong love of animals. His family expressed their deep gratitude for the care provided by his caregivers and the support of loved ones during Arthur’s final days.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Arthur’s family during this difficult time, and we honor the memories of a life well-lived.
