Art Robert Thurm Jr., Jacksonville, FL — The community is mourning the loss of Art Robert Thurm Jr., who passed away on June 14, 2024, at the age of 44. Art was a beloved member of the University of North Florida (UNF) Alumni Association Board and a dedicated supporter of his alma mater.
Jason Pratt, a fellow board member and friend, has organized a fundraiser to honor Art’s memory. The goal is to raise $3,000 to support UNF initiatives and contribute to the Ability Experience. Jason described Art as the most dedicated board member who loved serving the community and ensuring graduates felt connected to the university.
Art was born on June 24, 1979, in Riverhead, New York, and grew up between Upstate New York and Winter Haven, FL, where he graduated from Winter Haven High School. During his time at UNF, he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Omega fraternity and was crowned UNF Homecoming King in 2000. He graduated from the UNF Coggin College of Business and continued his involvement with the university as a board member of the UNF Alumni Association.
Known for his responsible and organized nature, Art was always eager to plan events and participate in activities. He never turned down an opportunity to be with friends, believing that “no” led to boredom. In addition to his dedication to UNF, he was an enthusiastic supporter of University of Florida sports, particularly the Gators.
Art’s favorite places to gather with friends included Brix, Ritz, Carrabba’s, and Ale House. He is survived by his aunt and uncle, Gerald and Cindy Beyer, and his sister, Jessica Miklas.
A Remembrance Ceremony will be held on July 27, 2024, at the Bank of England Suite within the UNF Arena. Art Robert Thurm Jr. will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for life, and the countless memories he created with his friends and family.
