Andrew Acalinovich, Mission Viejo, CA—The community is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Andrew Acalinovich, a beloved husband, father, son, and friend. Andrew’s life was unexpectedly cut short on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, following a difficult battle with a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia.
Andrew was diagnosed in early August after experiencing minor symptoms that included light fevers, shortness of breath, and coughing. His journey began with an immediate admission to City of Hope Duarte, where the Hematology department created a detailed treatment plan to address his complex condition. The challenges of his unique mutation made his treatment course more demanding, yet Andrew’s strength and resilience were a constant source of hope.
After a brief time at home in late August, Andrew returned to the hospital in early September, where he underwent 21 continuous days of chemotherapy. The therapy showed positive results, and his medical team was hopeful for a remission and eventual transplant. However, just days before completing his treatment, a rare autoimmune reaction impacted his lungs, leading to his passing on October 23, surrounded by his wife, Kaitlynn, and family.
A fundraiser, organized by Hailey Stockbrugger, has been established to help support Andrew’s family—Kaitlynn and their young children, Aria and Joey. As of today, the community has contributed $720 toward a $10,000 goal, with donations arriving steadily from friends and well-wishers who have been touched by Andrew’s story.
Our hearts go out to Andrew’s family and all who knew and loved him. We hold them in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time, hoping they find comfort in the memories shared and the love he left behind.
