Allison’s life was defined by her selflessness and devotion. In 2020, she took on the responsibility of caring for her terminally ill sister and young niece, all while supporting her husband, Anthony, and their son, Bill, who was born with special needs. In March 2022, Allison was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, a battle she fought with incredible courage.
Despite undergoing multiple lifesaving surgeries and enduring rounds of chemotherapy, the challenges only grew more intense when Allison’s sister passed away in March 2023. Allison and Anthony, driven by love, took on the care of their niece as part of their family, further showcasing their unwavering dedication.
Anthony Hicks, who had already put his own health on hold to support his family, now faces the immense loss of his beloved wife. The Hicks family has been under tremendous financial strain, with Anthony postponing his necessary surgeries for back and shoulder injuries to keep the family afloat.
In an effort to support the family during this difficult time, Suzanne Schmidt, Allison’s sister-in-law, has organized a fundraiser. The Hicks Family Fundraiser, created on August 8th, 2024, has raised $1,960 AUD of its $25,000 goal so far, with contributions from 16 donors. The funds will help Anthony close his home-based business temporarily, allowing him to undergo surgery and focus on his family’s well-being without the added burden of financial instability.
The generosity of the community has been evident, with donations coming from individuals like Bruce Murray and Jessica Baker, as well as an anonymous donor who made the largest contribution of $500. Suzanne Schmidt’s heartfelt plea for support continues to resonate, as the community rallies to assist the Hicks family in their time of need.
