Ailyn Rafael, Kahului, HI—The Kahului community is mourning the loss of Ailyn Rafael, who passed away recently at the age of 46. Ailyn was a beloved mother, daughter, and friend who faced her battle with cancer with remarkable strength and grace.
Ailyn’s health journey took a challenging turn last year when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, which spread to her lymph nodes. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and a surgery in April 2024 to remove the cancer, her condition continued to worsen. In June 2024, further tests revealed metastatic cancer in her liver and right shoulder, leading to additional treatments. Sadly, Ailyn developed hemolytic anemia and ascites, further complicating her already critical condition. After being med-evac’d to Straub for advanced care, she briefly recovered but ultimately succumbed to her illness on August 19, 2024.
Her daughter, Rose Anne Rafael, has organized a fundraiser to help cover Ailyn’s funeral and outstanding medical expenses. So far, $770 of the $35,000 goal has been raised, with heartfelt contributions from friends and family. Donations include $50 from Zuleima Lopez, $20 from Alyssa Mae Antolin, $100 from Lane Thaut, $100 from Lori Steer, and $100 from Krystal Dominguez.
The community has come together on social media to express their sorrow and support. Irene Santamaria shared, “Shared on my page, Couz. Love you guys!” on Facebook, while others have continued to offer prayers and donations through the GoFundMe page.
Ailyn’s loving nature and selflessness touched the lives of many, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. We are deeply saddened by her passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Rafael family during this difficult time.
