Addington Mutsago, known affectionately as "Rasta," passed away on August 17, 2024, leaving behind a grieving community in Whitby, ON, and his three young children. He was just 40 years old. Addington had moved to Canada earlier this year in March with his children, having gained permanent residency through the Lonely Canadian program, thanks to his sister, Mutsa Mutsago.
Addington was a man full of life, known for his love of music, dancing, and the joy he brought to those around him. However, the challenges of adapting to a new country weighed heavily on him, ultimately leading to his untimely passing. He was a devoted father who adored his children, and his death has left them without their guiding light.
In an effort to honor Addington’s final wishes, his sister Mutsa Mutsago has organized a fundraiser to cover the costs of repatriating his remains to Zimbabwe for a proper burial. The fundraiser also aims to provide support for his children as they navigate this profound loss.
So far, the fundraiser has raised $165 CAD out of the $15,000 goal, with contributions from members of the community including Amos Ncube, Varaidzo Marata, Ongezwa Sijeqe, and an anonymous donor. The community is encouraged to donate and help ease the financial burden on the family during this difficult time.
Many have taken to Facebook to express their condolences and urge others to contribute. Lee Dzinket Madzinga shared a heartfelt plea: "Please donate if you are able."
The passing of Addington Mutsago has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him. The love and happiness he brought to his family and friends will be remembered and cherished forever.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Mutsago family. May Addington rest in peace, and may his family find strength and solace during this incredibly painful time.
