Shayna Maya Bennett, Bright and Compassionate Law Student, Passes Away Suddenly at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA

The Duquesne University community is mourning the sudden passing of Shayna Maya Bennett, a first-year law student whose vibrant presence and dedication to justice touched everyone around her.

Shayna, who graduated cum laude from Hofstra University just a year ago, came to Pittsburgh with a strong mission to advocate for children and give a voice to those in need. Her untimely death on a Thursday in March has left students and faculty grappling with profound sadness.

Known for her infectious laugh and radiant smile, Shayna was a devoted member of the Jewish Law Association, the Women’s Law Association, and a former member of Hillel. Her peers remember her as a person who brought warmth and kindness to every interaction.

Her parents, Nate and Jamie, along with her sisters Bailey and Eliana, described her as a cornerstone of love and support, leaving an “immeasurable void” in their lives. Social media tributes reflected the same sentiment, honoring Shayna’s compassion, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to justice.

While the community grieves, her legacy of empathy, faith, and dedication to making a positive difference continues to inspire those who knew her. Memorial service details will be announced by her family in the near future.
