Shama Cartwright, Augusta Navy Veteran And Longtime Rebel Lion Den Owner, Remembered After Passing From Stage 4 Cancer And G6PD Deficiency

Shama Cartwright has passed after living with Stage 4 Cancer and G6PD deficiency, according to a fundraiser created on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Family members Chauncey Taylor-Cartwright and Caleb Cartwright organized the fundraiser, which reported $1,575 raised toward a $2.6K goal through 26 donations.

Shama Cartwright served as a Navy veteran and spent 26 years as owner of The Rebel Lion Den in downtown Augusta, Georgia.

The family described Shama as a cornerstone of the Augusta community who created a space that celebrated Afrocentric culture, healing, dignity, and herbal wellness.

The fundraiser noted that a Navy veteran claim had not yet been processed at the time of passing, leaving the family seeking support for funeral and cremation costs.

Memorial service details will be announced later by family members.
