Opia Muntagim Remembered After Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 71 Exit Ramp in Kansas City Claims Two Lives

Opia Muntagim, 46, lost life in a devastating multi-vehicle traffic collision that occurred just after 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7, 2026, on the exit ramp from northbound U.S. Route 71 to Meyer Boulevard in Kansas City.

Authorities reported that Muntagim sat in a silver Subaru Forester stopped at a red light alongside 54-year-old Teri Glass when a speeding Ford F-150 struck several vehicles and forced the Subaru across lanes and over a barrier.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the impact caused fatal injuries to both occupants of the Subaru at the scene.

Investigators said the pickup truck had approached the ramp at a very high speed before striking multiple vehicles and sending debris across the roadway.

Several others involved in the collision were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, while another driver escaped without serious harm.

Friends, family members, and members of the community later gathered in grief, struggling to process the sudden loss that occurred during what began as an ordinary afternoon.

Loved ones described Muntagim as caring and warm, sharing that they will remember a life filled with kindness, humor, and presence in the lives of many.

One family message shared through close friends simply said Muntagim will be “deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved them.”

Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash as the Kansas City community reflects on the lives lost.

Family members said they will announce memorial service arrangements in the coming days.
