Trooper Kevin Trainor Remembered After Fatal Route 1 Wrong-Way Crash In Lynnfield On May 6, 2026

Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, died after a wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, at about 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Massachusetts State Police said Trooper Trainor was off duty and heading home after a shift when a four-door Jeep Wrangler traveling south in northbound lanes struck the marked cruiser.

First responders removed Trainor from the damaged cruiser and escorted the trooper to Massachusetts General Hospital, where medical teams provided care before the trooper passed away.

Route 1 North remained closed for about five hours while investigators reviewed the scene and worked to determine how the vehicle entered the highway in the wrong direction.
