Kencerio Walker, 18, Nykeria Laniya Johnson, and James Walker died Saturday night, May 23, 2026, after a large tree fell across Highway 56 South in Burke County, Georgia.

Authorities said the crash happened around 9:05 p.m., about a half-mile south of Pine Hill Church Road, after the tree came down across both lanes and struck two vehicles.

A black Jeep Cherokee was hit first, and its 18-year-old driver survived with minor injuries and received medical care.

A Ford Taurus carrying Kencerio, Nykeria, and James sustained severe damage, and emergency crews later found all three inside.

Loved ones said the family had been returning home from Augusta after celebrating Kencerio and Nykeria’s graduation from Swainsboro High School.

School officials confirmed both teenagers belonged to the Class of 2026, while community members remembered James as a caring parent who proudly supported graduation week.

A candlelight vigil was organized at Swainsboro High School as relatives, classmates, teachers, and neighbors gathered in remembrance.

Memorial and funeral service details will be announced later by family members.
